GET FIT FOR THE SLOPES
Posted by Super User on Tuesday, 04 February 2014 in Blog
Preparing for a winter ski or snowboarding holiday shouldn’t be restricted to a couple of lessons or a refresher course. An hour on the slopes burns up to 500 calories, so a full day skiing or snowboarding can be a significant workout, leaving you with achy joints and muscles if your body is not prepared.
This season Snozone has teamed up with fitness expert Josh Turner to develop a series of FREE ‘Get Fit For The Slopes’ routines that are aimed to condition muscles and prepare your body for a week on the slopes. The first video is available to view now on the Snozone You Tube channel and new videos will be added regularly throughout February and March.
Health and fitness facts about skiing and snowboarding:
• It gives a full body workout with key muscles used including hamstrings, calves, quads, inner and outer thighs, gluteals and abdominals
• It improves balance, flexibility, agility and leg and core strength
• You are using your whole body so it’s great for toning
• The sheer exhilaration of skiing is good for mental health and wellbeing
Elena Kale, Marketing Manager at Snozone, says: “Most people have too much fun on the slopes to even think about it being an effective workout. It certainly keeps our winter sport athletes in great shape. Here at Snozone we want to encourage people to prepare their body for the slopes, to limit injury and maximise their enjoyment.
“We are also encouraging skiers and snowboarders to consider their hobby as a way to keep fit year-round in a fun environment with friends, family or even on their own. The Snozone membership makes the cost of using the slope twice a week less than many gym memberships.”
