Mae Hodgson, 7 year old snowboarder/skier
My love of all things slope related started last year, at the age of 6, when my brother Manny and I started skiing lessons with Brian Evans at Snozone - later attending the excellent SZ Racing Club training sessions. We wanted to learn to ski so we could ski with our family.
When I turned 7 I asked if I could have snowboarding lessons so I could snowboard with my uncle. I commenced private snowboard coaching sessions with Charlotte just before Christmas and have been hooked ever since! After rapid progression through private lessons, I started Academy Excel snowboarding lessons, making lots of cool friends in the process. Approximately 5 months later I started to attend ‘Freestyle’ nights/sessions and Junior Performance coaching, making more friends - both children and adults.
I progressed quickly to the level of intermediate boarder - testament to the continual encouragement, support and enthusiasm of not only the fantastic snowboard coaches but all team members at Snozone (on and off the slope) and fellow boarders.
After snowboarding for less than 8 months I attended the ‘Ski the Kingdom’ Signature Session where I won ‘Best Youth Snowboarder’. A few weeks later I took 1st place in the under 9's snowboarding competition at the Snoacademy Sports Day at Snozone.
I still enjoy skiing but my dream is to be a professional snowboarder.
You can find me lapping the slope at Snozone every week.
